What Pandora's papers

For years, some of the richest people in the world have hidden their treasures in high seas, such as the Bahamas or Belize.
Now, a new investigation reveals American involvement with prominent world leaders in this secret world.

There are 1,001 different ways to define a tax area. It is usually regarded as a state or authority. Where you can deposit your money and avoid paying taxes where you have made your money

A team of journalists from the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists, "Washington Post," and hundreds of journalists around the world have discovered secrets
from millions of texts.

Pandora's papers show how the rich and powerful distributed their money around the world. It's a great collaboration of journalists once edited by the ICIJ.

We have emails, copies of passports, bank statements, showing how presidents, kings, princesses, billions, and criminals hide and withdraw money.

There are more than 11.9 million documents exposing the capture of powerful foreign powers, including the King of Jordan and a woman who is considered the girlfriend of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The United States with certain open laws in areas such as Alaska, South Dakota, Nevada, and Delaware has become a tax haven for global customers.

American politicians and legislatures have long criticized tax havens in small countries. He owns a building on the Cayman Islands where 12,000 companies are located.

Now, that could be the largest building in the world or the largest tax evasion in the world. That was in 2007. After 14 years, if you want to protect your money, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, is the place to go.

All of these trusted companies manage billions of dollars in consumer goods around the world. You just can't wait.

The building, located in the city center, now houses nearly $ 100 billion homes from foreign billionaires and billions, including some who are accused in their countries of fraud, bribery, human rights abuses, and other wrongdoings, either by themselves or their companies.

Like Horst Happel, an orange industrialist from Brazil. In 2016, Happel and others paid $ 88 million to the Brazilian government for allegedly collaborating to pay local farmers.

He built trust in the Midwestern region in 2017. So did the family of Carlos Morales Troncoso, the former vice-president of the Dominican Republic who controlled Central Romana, a sugar company accused of human rights abuses.

Morales placed his hopes in the Bahamas, and after his death, he was transferred to South Dakota for the benefit of his daughters.

His daughters, through a lawyer, said they had never been involved in the operation of the Central Romana. And after this, we will head to the SouthDakota Trust Company and mark them on our way All right.

South Dakota is one of the few states with the most liberal maritime accounting laws in the world.

This is a situation that was not culturally rich, therefore, when lawyers suggested lawyers in South Dakota change the law to make South Dakota a tax haven, many of these legislators were confident that jobs and money would follow.

Our investigation has shown that this is not true. U.S. law requires trustworthy companies to verify customer ownership but provides little guidance on who should accept and who should leave.

Pandora's papers also expose how American citizens smuggle their money out of the country while facing criminal investigations or expensive crimes.

That's where Glenn Godfrey comes in. His companies in Belize have established trusts, bank accounts, and companies of the alleged killer, a sex offender, a relative of the Colombo New York criminal family, and a self-proclaimed constitutional candidate who demanded the assassination of a judge, prosecutor, and IRS agent.

Godfrey did not respond to numerous requests for comment. It is very difficult for prosecutors to track money off the coast for all sorts of reasons due to the lack of cooperation in tax authorities as Belize's lack of time or resources.

Tax locations are legal. For example, businesses use them to reduce their tax burden, and countries use them to encourage investment.

But sometimes, trusts are used for the wrong reasons and for criminal activities. Tax facilities themselves are legal, but taxpayers have been used for years for illegal purposes to hide from the authorities, to avoid tax evasion, to park illegal profits in white crime, or politicians have hidden payments that are part of corruption.

Thus, while it may be illegal in all cases, there is a serious moral dilemma, and it is even more so in terms of the growing escalation of inequality we see around the world.

Pandora's papers also show the world leaders and their loyal circles who participate and benefit from this secret program. Jordan's King Abdulah II is one of them.

Over the past decade, like billions of dollars in American aid was poured into his country, secret money flowed to the other side. Abdulah's affiliates spent millions of dollars to buy expensive homes in the United States.

We have been able to show that King Abdulah bought hidden equipment in Malibu, or overlooked the Potomac River in Georgetown, and London and that he has spent more than $ 100 million privately over the last 10 or 11 years on expensive items unknown to his countrymen.

Abdulah's lawyers said their client had not misused any government funds or foreign aid. Someone else who benefits from this secret program is a Russian housing shop.

Undisclosed financial records including local tax documents show that Svetlana Krivonogikh became the hidden owner of a luxury condom in Monaco about 20 years ago, just a few months after giving birth to a girl.

The baby was born during a long-running secret relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to a 2020 Russian media report.

When we found Elizabeth's social media accounts, any doubts about Vladimir Putin's relationship with Svetlana Krivonogikh disappeared. We did not expect such a striking resemblance.

He, a few months after giving birth to the girl, owned a shell company with magnificent houses overlooking the Mediterranean in Monte Carlo.

A Kremlin spokesman did not respond to a request for comment by the ICIJ on behalf of "The Post" and other partner media organizations.

On the Pandora project. Krivonogikh did not mention his alleged relationship with Putin or his wealth. He did not respond to requests for comment.

It is estimated that companies and the richest have lost $ 32 trillion, free of charge or at a very low rate. This does not include real estate, arts, and heritage. This is more than the total US domestic product by 2020, and more than ten times the US budget deficit.
