Interestingly, it has been said that no two sisters are alike. One is reserved and appropriate. One, it is alive and well. One, the anchor of the international organization.
Someone, someone who seeks a purpose in life. They grew up in a very different world.
A land of nobles, of honor, of people who know their place.
- I think they were very different from when they were little and they kept being different. I think they were both very intelligent people, both devoted to their different ways.
Happy Queen Elizabeth II and Princess Margaret are in the middle the most photographed women in history.
All their appearances were followed by the media and the public. They are familiar with the whole world. But what are the real women behind?
The show and the splendor, beyond the porch and the happy crowds, beyond the crown itself? Elizabeth is like the man of ancient England where she grew up and the rapidly changing modern world she was so used to.
The queen always thought her sister was a mystery. It is very difficult to work with Princess Margaret, what part of her you are talking about, the royal part of the magnificent part.
There is a great love between them that survives the hard times of each individual's life.
The movement The difference between the sisters was there from the beginning. Elizabeth was born in the peaceful Mayfair region of London on April 21, 1926.
Four years later, during a storm in the Scottish countryside, Margaret came to earth. Their parents were Duke and Duchess of York, Albert, and Elizabeth. Albert or Bertie as he is known as the second son of the King, George.
The Fifth. Elizabeth was a mature, easy-going child and loved dogs and horses with her grandfather, King. Margaret, however, was a very different person.
It soon became apparent that Margaret was a shy, very funny person, mysterious to these two girls. Elizabeth was very vague but lacked the qualities of a quiet sister. Princess Elizabeth was a very intelligent child.
She looks naturally clean, naturally organized but Margaret from the beginning was fun, she was a hard worker.
He was not directed by his father so he was a wild child, he was in a very critical situation and he parted with the worst.
The Duke of York used to say,
"Lily Bet is my pride and Margaret is my joy."
And as for Princess Margaret, she rarely took her eyes off the baby. I mean she was beautiful she couldn't believe she was the one who created this glorious and beautiful baby but she just ruined it. Publisher Public princess life began early and here.
We see him on a Scottish holiday coming with his family to a mountain party. Encouragement No girl was ready for the life they had to live.
Like the two daughters of a second-born prince, Elizabeth and Margaret did not expect to be in the international arena.
With the Duke and Duchess of York, there has never been a desire to succeed on the throne and they have certainly never been expected.
That Princess Elizabeth would come to the throne. Of course, it was always possible for George and Elizabeth to have other children and a male heir will then jump Elizabeth into the queue to enter the throne.
So it was always too far away for her to be queen at her birth. Duke and Duchess of York, "The four of us," as Duke called them, we're expecting a more comfortable family life the way they were already enjoying themselves.
And they were a natural family and a very loving family. She was the girl's uncle, a lovely boyfriend, Prince David, who was to be the next King. He was expected to marry and have children of his own who would inherit the crown.
Elizabeth and Margaret were destined for a comfortable life of invisibility. Until 1936, the whole year changed.
Toward the end of January 20, King George Fifth died in Sandringham.
He had been suffering for a long time and returned to the Great War when he was thrown on his horse while reviewing French troops.
And suffered from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and pleurisy. Now that’s an ongoing situation so it hasn’t gotten any better.
The only witness in the Lord's last days was his physician and his doctor says he has given a lethal dose of morphine and cocaine to alleviate the King's passing, which he believes he does in getting patient pruning patient.
It was thought to be the best rather than the death of the Lord should be announced in the morning newspaper, The Times rather than the declaring nightly papers.
Stirling Elizabeth and Margaret's uncle, David, was proclaimed King and became Edward The Eighth. But the new king had never wanted a crown. He was really shocked by the idea. There was another problem.
The king was in love with an American divorcee, Wallis Simpson, and was determined to marry her.
The widespread British establishment, however, was far from being taken for granted.
Wallis Simpson was rude, disrespectful, running, very symbolic of that kind of glamor of the new world that made him so dear to Edward but not to the rest of the family.
Wallis was divorced twice and that was unknown in the British Empire and in social circles.
And so that was a reason not to love him. He never wanted to be king. She may not have even been able to articulate that but unless.
She was as stupid as I think she was, you must have realized that no one would accept a woman as a queen with two husbands living, that was the problem. The head of state is also the supreme ruler of the church of England.
He was about to pass through the actual anointing ceremony for the priest to pass over. Anointed with holy oil, with water, is a blessing.
For there to be a blatant violation such as marrying and divorce would have been, especially in the case of these times, was totally unacceptable. I do not think he took it well to be king.
I think he was not patient with it. His understanding of the details especially in relation to the state, especially in relation to the industrial conflicts that engulfed the country left much to be desired. Indeed, it is said that George.
The Fifth darkly predicted that if Edward became king, he would injure himself within a year. Stirling A constitutional crisis plagued Britain. Unbeknownst to the public, the media was silenced and the King's case was kept secret.
Finally, unable to cast off his beloved wife, the Lord cast off his crown. On December 11, 1936, Edward withdrew. He had been King for less than a year
- It was a shock.
I seem to think of fame, like contempt for work.
There were those two who thought that Edward should stay and should be allowed to marry Wallis Simpson and there were those.
Who just thought that the man was wasting space and should leave. And Wallis Simpson, let's say, saved the monarchy from a man who could be a very bad king. Stirling Crowds gathered outside Bertie's home in Piccadilly.
The family of the new king had moved from their home to the magnificent Buckingham Palace. The lives of Elizabeth and Margaret changed. Elizabeth was now enthroned. Training for his future role began immediately.
In 1936, following the abduction of Edward The Eighth, the throne was transferred to Elizabeth and Margaret's father, Betty.
He became the Sixth George. On May 12, 1937, he has crowned Westminster Abbey. George was not fully prepared to be King. He said that it was like a lamb that was led to the slaughter.
A meeting was held to refrain from using the original Christian names but to use intermediate terms
to rule under him and chose George because just according to Hanoverian tradition, there were already five Georges, and of course, the former king was also called George.
And he desperately wanted to reconcile stability in the aftermath of the chaos and confusion of the kidnapping crisis. The Governor of York saw the need to move forward and become King without having experience in all government papers, whatever training his brother had.
He entered absolute Stirling King George will ensure that his eldest daughter, Elizabeth, would you be better prepared for the role of royalty. Beginning in 1938, he received private studies from Sir Henry Martin, dean of Eton College.
His father described the type of mailboxes that are legal that was the daily routine of the king. Margaret was not included. The sisters' growth, in the same way, was different.
That expectation of good education does not extend to Margaret who is still studying as a well-behaved, successful girl who was expected to continue and get married. So singing, piano lessons.
The French dialogue becomes important but not the history of the constitution, not difficult theological subjects. They were still in love with the same bond they lived in all the time.
This was a very positive event that heightened the pre-existing tendencies that girls already have, Elizabeth at work and Margaret doing ridiculous things and perhaps a little outside.
The important co-operative room for constitutional decision-making. Movement Beyond the girls' classrooms, the world was in trouble.
German Nazi violence had sparked a new war in Europe. It was suggested that Elizabeth and Margaret be released for safety. They were not sent abroad simply because they thought it was important to send the right kind of message.
Sending the message that the royal family did not escape the threat of Nazi Germany and everyone will stay at the post office too.
The King needed the Queen to be with him. He would not go and the daughters would not go, they would all live together. And it was a very powerful message.
Pictures from Germany were deplorable images of people walking around in black uniforms raising their arms and shouting, "What did you get in England?
He found Queen Elizabeth in a pony cart with two princesses riding a bicycle behind him.
To take the princesses to the great security of Windsor Castle all week. And as Princess Margaret said, "We had to leave for five days and stay for five years." Stirling Castle seemed to forbid it at first.
Her jewelry was kept in storage. Darkness overshadowed darkness. But although the quake in London was heard in the castle, the girls were safe.
As the war dragged on and Elizabeth grew older, Elizabeth took on more community responsibilities.
After reaching the age of 18 in 1944, she entered the auxiliary field service.
As a mechanic and driver. A princess wearing overalls, Elizabeth in ATS or a British whack and at the Lord's request, is treated like any other student.
Now, being visited by his parents and sister Margaret-Rose at a training station in the South of England, he shows them that he knows the fan band.
The spark plug is ok and he is not afraid to get his hands dirty.
The Women's Auxiliary Army and the ATS were much more than ordinary girls and so I think it was intended to send a message that the royal family was not very different.
They were not the epitome of immorality. Elizabeth learned to drive an ambulance, learned to be a mechanic, and even learned to shoot a pistol.
These were propagandist tokens but the beautiful young princess's entry into the military effort was designed to improve the spirit of the world.
I think he was greatly appreciated by the community as well.
He loved it, loved to learn to drive, how to deal with burning engines and those kinds of things until.
He just got to his Stirling Road Although the war brought him closer to the public eye, it also brought him, love.
And for this pragmatic girl, her choice was unexpected. In July 1939, when the Queen was only 13 years old, she inspected the Royal Naval College in Dartmouth and one of the male officials was introduced to it.
He was a handsome prince, Phillip. I think it is clear.
Prince Phillip, the most handsome, the most handsome, caught Elizabeth's eye. And his jaw dropped.
Stirling Three years later, the couple spent Christmas together while Philip was on Navy vacation. Then they started corresponding regularly but Elizabeth's parents, King and Queen, refused.
The king had his doubts about Phillip. There was a feeling inside the Royal Household that all this was very fast. The thought of someone coming to pick up her 21-year-old daughter would not have been appealing.
As there would probably not be too many fathers. We must remember that Elizabeth set her eyes on him for the first time at the age of 13 and there was a confession even at a time.
When people often got married, much earlier than now, that this might be just a crush on girls that could pass.
Opposition to Stirling, King, and Queen was defeated.
On November 20, 1947, Elizabeth and Phillip were married in Westminster Abbey. Margaret was among the concubines.
Elizabeth and Phillip took their places on the history pages. Because of their strange gaze, they marched like a man and a woman to the west entrance
among the nearly 3000 invited guests.
Marriage itself was a very big story, a very big story on purpose against this domain of firmness. The evaluation was still going on if any, very bad. He may have been the heir to the throne, but he could not be considered a nobleman.
Though you have a beautiful dress, it is not as glamorous as any other royal pride. This wedding was the first major wedding of the Royal Family since the anointing of the King and Queen 10 years ago. And Winston Churchill referred to it as a light of color
on the road, we have to go.
The following year, Elizabeth gave birth to a son. Charles was born on November 14th, 1948. Three more children will follow in the next 16 years.
This meant that Margaret was no longer near the throne. I think Margaret had already accepted that her sister's relationship with Elizabeth had changed when Phillip was on the scene.
So, in many respects, Charles' arrival did not change that.
I do not think you ever expected to be queen, or any desire to be queen. And so, if any, it was probably a relief. I am sure that Princess Margaret's initial reaction was a great joy, but I know that in later life, there was a certain feeling of being my little sister.
